Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 21, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how the Aurora Hunter app ("the Application"), developed by Francesco Livraghi ("Data Controller"), collects, uses, and shares user data.

1. Data Controller

The data controller is Francesco Livraghi.
For any privacy-related questions, you can contact us at: info@aurorahunter.it

2. What Data We Collect

A. Geolocation Data (GPS)

The Application collects precise or approximate data about your location, even when the app is in the background (only if explicitly authorized for notifications), to:

  • Calculate the probability of viewing the aurora in your area (Local KP Index).
  • Show your position on the map in real-time.
  • Suggest the "Best Spots" nearby.

B. Account Data (No-Login System)

The Application does not require traditional registration. To ensure your privacy, we do not collect Email Addresses, Real Names, or Passwords. The app solely generates:

  • An anonymous local User ID, stored on your device.
  • A token for push notifications (to send you auroral alerts).
  • User preferences (e.g., cloud threshold, device language).

C. Device Information

We automatically collect information such as device model, operating system version, IP address, and unique identifiers for crash analysis and security purposes.

D. User Generated Content (Photos and Reports)

If you choose to submit a sighting report or upload a photograph, we collect the media content and associated metadata (report location). This content is stored on our servers anonymously and associated exclusively with your local User ID. By submitting a photo, you guarantee that you own the rights to it and agree that it may be viewed by other users and used for promotional purposes on our official social channels.

3. How We Use Your Data

The collected data is used for:

  • Service Provision: Ensuring the functioning of weather and auroral forecasts.
  • Advertising (Free Version): Showing non-personalized or personalized ads via Google AdMob to support development costs.
  • Improvement: Analyzing crashes and errors via Google Analytics for Firebase.

4. Third-Party Services

The app uses third-party services that may collect information used to identify you. Below are the links to the privacy policies of the providers used:

The device's advertising ID is used exclusively for the proper delivery of ads and to prevent fraud, in accordance with Google's policies.

5. Links to Third-Party Sites and Commercial Affiliations

The Application may contain affiliate links or promotional codes that refer to third-party partner websites (e.g., tour operators, accommodations). Please be informed that:

  • No payment data collection: We do not collect, store, or handle your billing data, credit cards, or booking information in any way. Any purchase or booking is made entirely on the platforms of third-party partners.
  • Referral Tracking: By clicking on an affiliate link, we may transmit a redirect identifier to the partner site to indicate that the traffic comes from Aurora Hunter.
  • Third-Party Policies: Once you leave the Application to visit a partner's site, the collection and processing of your data will be subject to the third-party site's Privacy Policy. We encourage you to review their policies before completing a booking.

6. User Rights (GDPR)

In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of your personal data in our possession.
  • Rectify: Request the correction of inaccurate data.
  • Delete (Right to be Forgotten): You can delete your account and all associated data directly from the App (Settings > Account > Delete Account) or by sending an email to the Controller.

7. Data Security

The security of your data is important to us. We use secure protocols (HTTPS) and encrypted storage services (Firebase) to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.

8. Children's Privacy

The Application is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will immediately delete it from our servers.
