The real enemy is often cloud, not a low KP value

Many travellers obsess over KP and ignore cloud cover. A fully overcast sky can hide a strong storm, while a clear sky can deliver a good display under more modest geomagnetic conditions. Check cloud cover, Bz, solar wind and aurora forecasts together rather than relying on one number.

What time should you watch?

Auroras around Rovaniemi commonly appear between roughly 10 PM and 2 AM, although they can occur earlier or later. Treat the whole evening as a viewing window. If the sky is clear, do not wait indoors for an app to show a perfect percentage.

Where to see the aurora near Rovaniemi

Do not build the entire trip around one supposedly perfect night. Stay several nights and keep evenings flexible. Three or four independent chances are far more valuable than a single expensive outing booked weeks in advance. The aurora can be forecast, but never reserved.
